MRL Leases 98 Trinity Hoppers. Built in 1988, these 100-Ton, 3,000 cubic foot covered hoppers are used in cement service.

Atlas makes one version of the car that closely represents the prototype. Thrall built the MRL cars and this prototype is the ACF version. The prototype is close to this model except for the stirrup steps. Status - Out of production. New run coming in undec.

Micro-Trains makes another version that closely represents the prototype. Thrall built the MRL cars and this prototype is another ACF version. The prototype is close to this model and has better stirrup steps. Thinner wall detail and door outlets makes this better than Atlas. Status - Out of production. Undec available off and on.
INTERMOUNTAIN 2 BAY CENTER FLOW HOPPER	MODEL CAR
A third version available by Intermountain also closely represents the prototype. Thrall built the MRL prototype cars and this is another ACF version. The model is close to to the prototype and has see-through walkways. The gap between the body and roof leaves a lot to be desired though. Status - Out of production. Other roads available.

RED CABOOSE 2 BAY 100 TON HOPPER	MODEL CAR
Here is the model car that closely represents the prototype. Red Caboose makes this 3,000 cubic foot version of the hopper. The prototype has eleven ribs but this model only has 10. The stirrup steps are a little different and the end supports are set too low but this model is definately close enough for N -Scale. Status - Available decorated.

20001 - 20037 50' 6" 70 -TON BOXCAR	PROTOTYPE CAR
Purchased from the Burlington Northern these 50' single door box cars were built by American Car and Foundry for the Frisco in 1972.
ATLAS 50' SINGLE DOOR PD BOX	MODEL CAR
Atlas has made a great version of this 50' single door box car. The details are perfect in every way including seperate cross over platforms and end grab irons. The roof detail is more correct than the Micro-Trains version. Status - getting scarce.
MICRO TRAINS 50' RIB SIDE BOX	MODEL CAR
Micro Trains has again picked a close model but not quite. The roof is not correct for this car but most people would not notice or care. The red door on this car makes it stand out as a little different and is a nice addition to any train. Status - out of production but still around.
ROUNDHOUSE 50' SINGLE DOOR BOX	MODEL CAR
The Roundhouse 50' single door box numbered for this series is close to prototype except for the ends and roof. These cars came out many years ago in 12 packs and are not available under the Roundhouse name. Athearn now has the molds for this car and future releases are unknown. Status - not available.
20038 - 20104 50' 6" 70 -TON BOXCAR	PROTOTYPE CAR
MRL purchased sixty seven 50 foot box cars from the Kiamichi Railroad in 1994. These cars were originaly built by Pullman Standard for DT&I in 1973.
ROUNDHOUSE 50' BFF SINGLE DOOR BOX	MODEL CAR
Roundhouse made a 50' single door box that closely matches the prototype car. The stirrup steps are wrong but the roof, ends and doors are great. The paint job leaves a lot to be desired as the blue is way off but can probably be weathered to look like a faded car. Status - not available.
21001 - 21250 50' 6" 100 - TON BOXCAR	PROTOTYPE CAR
Originally Southern Railway cars the MRL purchased 250 70 ton box cars and had them rebuilt to 100 ton capacity by LRC.
ATHEARN 50' SINGLE DOOR SEICO BOX	MODEL CAR
Athern makes their Seico box car with a removeable roof. How lucky is that as this car can be used to model this car series by adding a 4 inch scale strip between the roof and roof-line. The door is better for this prototype and car ribs can be modified. Renumber to 21000 series. Status - New run available now
21400 - 21599 50' 6" 70 - TON BOXCAR	PROTOTYPE CAR
200 former Railbox cars built by Pullman Standard were aquired by MRL to suppliment their freight cars. Most of these cars still ride in Railbox livery with MRL reporting marks. Doors and styles vary.

Roundhouse made several 50' single door box cars that closely match the prototypes. The cars vary between 12 ribs and 10 ribs with varying doors.
INTERMOUNTAIN PS 5277 CU. FT. BOX	MODEL CAR
A new entry into the modern box car market is Intermountain. This 50' Pulllman Standard 5277 cubic foot box has very crisp details. A great railbox version can be relettered into MRL. Status - availble.

73 former Great Northern plug door box cars were purchased from BN. These cars were built by Pacific Car and Foundry between 1968 and 1969.

This number series of plug door box cars were also purchased from the Burlington Northern. These cars were built by Berwick Forge and Foundry for the former Great Northern and built in 1970.

99 woodchip cars were purchased by MRL from the Burlington Northern. Gunderson built these cars for BN in 1972. MRL uses these cars on-line for chip service service between Livingston and Schilling.
DELUXE INNOVATIONS 60' WOODCHIP HOPPER	MODEL CAR
Deluxe Innovations makes this nice version of the woodchip hopper. The only minor detail is that Deluxe puts the brakewheel on the ends where as MRL uses cars that dump on both ends requiring a side mount ratcheting brake.
8501 - 8530 100 - TON HOPPER	PROTOTYPE CAR
MRL owns 29, 3 bay 100 ton hoppers. Built by GE Railcar these cars are assigned to bulk commodity service.
ATLAS/TRAINMAN 90 TON 3 BAY HOPPER	MODEL CAR
Atlas Trainman series 90 ton 3 bay hopper closely represents this car. This car does not come decorated in MRL but you can get it in black with data on it. Status - available.
40001 - 40030 52' 6" 70 - TON GONDOLA	PROTOTYPE CAR
In 1970 Thrall made these 52' gondolas for the Burlington Northern. Now lettered for MRL they are used on the system for MOW and scrap.

MTL makes a decent gondola to respresent this car. The one I used has drop ends. MTL came out with the fixed end version later on. Status - Available undec.
41000 - 41049 52' 6" 110 - TON GONDOLA	PROTOTYPE CAR
50 of these 52' gondolas were built by Trinity Industries in 1995. They have been returned to the lessor due to structural problems and are no longer on MRL property.

Roundhouse made a nice model to represent this car. All the details are very close. The Prototypes were painted dark blue and again the Roundhouse color is not correct. Status - not available. Athearn - reproducing this model now but not in MRL.

This Walthers model is a good start in the right direction. A few missing ribs can be added and some end bracing and ladders would make this into a nice model. Status - not avilable.

Intermountain Railway Co. makes a nice version of the 4,650 cubic foot grain hopper. All details look good on this model. Status - available in many road numbers. Periodic releases.

An order for 110 5,150 cubic foot hoopers were delivered to MRL in 1996. Built by Thrall Car thses cars have a larger capacity than the previous series of grain hoppers.

Micro-Trains make this ACF hopper which is close to the prototype car. The taper of the ends does not match the Thrall version but the overall look is good.

MRL Purchased 53 of these bulkhead flats from BC Rail. Built in Canada in 1978 these cars were modified with removable bunks by MRL for log loading.

ConocoPhillips provides 154 of these 30,000 gallon tank cars for the "Gas Local". Built by Union Tank Car these cars are in dedicated service between Thompson Falls and Missoula.

Athearn makes a new 30,000 gallon ethanol tank car. The details are very crisp and clean. The car has most of the details needed to model this prototype. It seems to missing one small vent that could easily be ommited. Status - available

MRL uses these PS-2 2600 Cubic Foot Hoppers for sand service at their locomotive facilities. Built by Pullman Standard starting in the late 1940's and into the 1950's. The Paint Schemes vary on all 4 of these cars.

ATLAS EXTENDED VISION CABOOSE	MODEL CAR
This Atlas caboose w/o roofwalks is a great start for this caboose. Just add air conditioners and headlights at each end. A single chime horn and mu-hoses complete this model.
