EMD E8/9 2250 HP |
PROTOTYPE |

MRL's first E-unit they aquired was too far gone to be rebuilt. The MRL 36 is on it's way
to the MRL for storage because of a dispute between sister company CEECO and two other parties. It is not known
at this time what will become of this unit but we can only hope that MRL will get this unit for Passenger specials.

KATO E8/9 |
MODEL |

Kato makes another great model to use for this engine. These untis are getting scarce however so I would recommend picking up a model now
if you can and wait till MRL gets it painted. Undec shells are still available from Kato.

EMD SW1500 1500 HP |
PROTOTYPE |
|
MRL's two SW1500's were purchased from National Railway Equipment in 1995. These units were originaly Inland Steel locomotives
based out of Chicago. An unusual detail of these locomotives are the flexicoil turcks which MRL installed shortly after aquiring them.
Both units have now come back from Ceeco with new paint.

MODEL |
|
No good model available at this time. There have been a couple of releases of SW1500's by Atlas and Con-Cor but
these untits are terrible by todays standards. I have seen these at shows for varying prices but overall I don't
think they are worth buying at any price. Modeling these units with flexicoil trucks would make this task even more difficult.

EMD SD19-1 1750 HP |
PROTOTYPE |
|
MRL's two SD19-1's are only the same in name. The two are definately the most unique units on the roster. The 651 is more like an SD-9 than the 652.
The cab and nose are from a wrecked SD-40 and the fuel tank from an GP-38. The 652 has an altered SD-40 body with a filter box that looks like a GP38-2.
|
|
|
ATLAS SD-9 |
MODEL |
|
Atlas makes a SD-9 which would be a start for this model. Each of these units would need the frame and trucks from an SD-9 but the similarities end there.
An SD-40 cab can be added to the 651 and needs modification of the nose. The 652 needs an SD-40 body with some shortening and an addition of a filter box
from a GP38-2. Get good photos and hack away.

Kato SD70ACe's are out now. Only heritage untis are available so far with CSX and BNSF announced. Hoping to see another announcment soon
as the undec shell I used has the headlight on top of the cab instead of on the nose. Oh well, it's nice to have an Ace on the layout.
